send word to the family

i’m so fucking lost today
stepped off a curb in front of
one of those abominably clean running
silent cars

the suburban straight laced fella driving
seemed to mind

walked back into the grocery store
chasing after
forgotten items
three times

death has been calling for days
but i never pick up the phone

he didn’t have to tell me
he was coming

time to
send word to the family

and all i have left to discern
the next time life decides
we may briefly collide

is
what today
has done to your eyes
