poets won’t
pay the rent
fix the car
make dinner
look after the kids
put the bottle down
stop chasing pipe dreams
or be there when you
wake up
in the morning
but they know
how it all equates
to death

poly-amorous
of course
i have a crush on you
why deny the obvious
we poets are all in love with each other
and i remember the whore
leaning against a streetlight in los angeles
saying the world is poly-amorous
the battle is over
yet the stench of iron and blood
lingers in the air
three bodies dead on the floor
after a two man fight
no one is to blame
our flaws and wrongs
tragically complimentary
brought us here
there is magic and brutality within my homeland
i hope you never come to understand
it kills everything
especially the most beautiful things
no, i don’t hate you, baby
please know how glad i am
you survived the war
i should be terribly afraid
of all the ink and blood ramifications
of falling in love with you
