it doesn’t work that way, cowboy

he expected me

to be true

though everything about him

was a lie

the t-shirt

when next the situation arises
that i need to sleep at your place
and i borrow something to sleep in
don’t give me sweats or your best pajamas
i want your oldest, rattiest t-shirt
the Nirvana t-shirt that you bought
in 1992 from a record store
back when there were record stores
the one your mom spilled bleach on
so you didn’t take it to band camp
but it was okay because bleach
was their best album
the t-shirt that mopped up
your barf in college
the one your roommate spilled
both ranch dressing and candle wax on
at the same party
the one that’s faded from being washed 7,000 times
that needed washing a few more
the t-shirt that has a constellation
of holes in it that look
like the Falkland Islands
the t-shirt your dog had puppies on
but you cleaned that shirt and kept wearing it
because you love that dog
and you loved those puppies
and it made you want to keep
that fuckin’ t-shirt even more
give me that soft broken-in
raggedy t-shirt
that represents your entire life
give me that t-shirt
to sleep in

war makes murderers

there are but three

unchangeable forces

known

in our meager lives

.

history is indestructible

dying

and the passage of time

.

that having been said

no wrongful death

may be avenged

with the death of another

.

if history has taught us

nothing else

it is that

war

makes murderers

of all humankind

i have an idea

I want to start generating a daily publication that is protected by freedom of speech. It will be hack proof, because I’ll print it with ink, paper, and my own type set and press. Within it’s pages one will find well researched, valid information pertinent to society here and overseas. I will expose criminals, both common and elected. I will deliver the truth in an unbiased way, come hell or high water. Maybe even throw in sports scores. I’ll put in boxes on corners and sell them for a quarter a piece. I’ll be called anti-American. I’ll call it a newspaper.

cities burned

i’m unsure
how to carry you
inside me
for the rest of my life

most cherished pearl

how am i to love honestly
be grateful for a bed
or accept the stars in the sky

i have gladly given away kingdoms for you

my carriage dismantled
horses taken to market
cities burned

because he knew
i love you

helen of troy
on my balcony
causing war

did you notice
when we’re together
our eyes become the same color

the noble lie

you make me consider plato
and his noble lie

“a contrivance for one of those falsehoods that come into being in case of need, of which we were just now talking, some noble one. . . .”

and i once thought
withholding my opinion
my true thoughts about you
an act of merciful omission

because my cause was to protect
the needy case that is you

but let me tell you, jack

you’re as full of shit as they come

that cross you bear
ain’t nothing new under this sun
neither is that organ grinder monkey
resting on your unbroken back

your shuck and jive is tired
taking credit for museum pieces
as you sell them for another day on the corner

you’re a well enabled drunk
an aged man child
a life long con man
a notorious bastard

cookie cutter motherfucker
you’re the reason
charitable people
throw out their couches

and you’re too fucking old
to be excused

things you cannot write

i don’t regret hurting you

i do regret knowing you

you’re the reason why our kids are ugly

i don’t care for the ginsberg poem

i’m not hung up on living past forty

i enjoy a big piece of meat in all forms

i think all poetry should be free verse

vanilla should be outlawed

marijuana should be legal

rapists and pedophiles and corrupt bankers should be executed

incendiary is good

i don’t give a fuck about my cholesterol

the government should forget everything they’re doing and begin again

people should throw out their child’s video game system while they still have some semblance of a soul

put a book in your child’s hands so they read it and learn empathy

take a walk every day

own a dog

be marvelously kind even when you don’t feel like it

liquor is good

sex is good

shut up and listen regularly

.

.

i’m falling in love with you

.

.

reality tv should end

abortions should be free and considered an act of mercy

women should be paid equally

water should be cherished

insurance companies should be banished

men should not be bashed for having balls

national healthcare need be implemented

all weapons should be melted into a temple built to honor peace

dance to music daily

religion should be do it yourself
